In House Laboratory Testing and Ultrasound Services

At WTEVC we know that when your pet is sick, you want answers as quickly as possible. That's why we have in-house laboratories and ultrasound services on site. This allows us to quickly diagnose your pet so that we can begin treatment right away. At WTEVC, we are committed to providing the best possible care for your sick pet - and that includes getting you the answers you need as quickly as possible.

In House Blood Work

We perform a range of blood tests at West Texas Emergency Vet. This gives us the opportunity to help diagnose and treat your pet as fast as humanly possible.

We offer routine in-house blood testing for the following:

If your pet needs specialized tests, we use a courier to send samples to laboratories. This can delay results depending on the test.

Through our animal ultrasound service, we can examine organs more closely and at a greater depth than other imaging machines. If your pet has heart or abdominal issues, we can use our ultrasound to help decide whether your pet needs surgery or further testing. The benefit of our ultrasound is that it can be taken during the evaluation, which means you will know right away if there are any abnormalities. Our staff is highly trained in animal ultrasound procedures, so you can be sure your pet will be kept comfortable while we get the proper images.

With ultrasound we can detect:

  • Pregnancies
  • Signs of pancreatitis
  • Injuries of the muscles, tendons, and cartilage
  • Fluid in the abdomen
  • Abnormalities of the heart
  • Cysts and tumors

During the ultrasound procedure
First, your pet will be prepped by shaving the area being examined. This makes the ultrasound wand more receptive to imaging. After a special jelly is applied to the skin, the ultrasound will then be performed. We carefully examine your pet and based on our findings will discuss a treatment or plan of action.

Ultrasounds are non-invasive, painless, and provide a clear image of your pet’s body. Many pets enjoy the massaging feel of the ultrasound wand, so your pet may not even need to be sedated.

THANK YOU to the Emergency Vet Clinic for diagnosing our puppy and treating her for distemper. We came AFTER another vet said she had allergies. Despite an extremely long wait, the doctor took care of Lulu and even offered a follow up visit to check up on her. The front desk person (Kristin maybe? she is starting nights) is a true asset to the team. Thank you for being a resource in West Texas.
